Tom Shales, Zealous Critic, Retires Deep In Debt

I’ve been heretofore unfamiliar with the work of Pulitizer Prize winning television critic Tom Shales of the Washington Post. If “critic’s corners” is a genre, television critic is one my favorite subgenres in the world. I like the way he writes – with lots of flourish worthy of the word “prose.”

Shales recently trashed ABC for hiring Cristianne Amanpour. Apparently she’s no friend of Israel, slightly biased toward the Palestinians.  Tom is right to assert hiring Amanpour is quirte a serious departure from the norm: white and male. And he’s right to pick up on Amanpour’s disposition relative to all issues Israeli being a bit more complicated.

Tom Shales: I’m Leaving Washington Post, Am Heavily In Debt.
