Uncatagorized Update #1

What has happened since I last wrote?
TRAGEDY AT FORT HOOD – 30 SHOT, 14 KILLED BY LONE GUNMAN
Nobody likes the act of going postal. It is dumb and unjustified. An Army doctor/officer went postal on the large Army base in central Texas, Fort Hood, where most Army soldiers ship out to the U.S. wars in the Middle East from. Many feel he should be elevated to the status of terrorist. This may have to do with the fact he was Muslim and had strong opinions against the Global War on Terror (GWOT). I say he’s guilty of nothing more than a mass shooting, just like the boys of Columbine and the Virginia Tech student. In each case, the assailants were rueful misfit outcasts. If he studied the Koran much, I have a suspicious feeling it would have led him from taking the actions he did. The Koran would have taught him to be a strong person with a proud religion to turn to in times of personal struggle. I simply don’t see Islam leading him to go postal. So, he can’t blame the Koran.
STORM #4 DRIBBLES ON VALLEY
A really weak cold front, Storm #4, came through yesterday (Thursday the 12th). It made a lot of puddles, though I never actually caught it in the act of raining.
OFF-YEAR ELECTIONS: 1 GAY RIGHTS REJECTION, 1 GAY RIGHTS APPROVAL
Maine approved a ban on gay marriage, in a vote the Democratic Party took no position on (had they taken a position, they probably would have supported the ban). The good news is, despite that, 47% of the voters rejected the ban. Not enough to defeat the ban, but consider that a similar vote 20 years ago would have been about 30% on the side gays having full marriage equality. Here in California, a similar measure was rejected by basically the same amount of voters exactly a year earlier. Not bad, considering most people really don’t understand what gay marriage is yet. I think most people aren’t sure if it affects family trees (it doesn’t – it’s the civil form of marriage – it is recognized only by the state, not by families or churches) or if churches now must marry gays (the answer is no, though they can if they want to). However, in Washington, voters approved a unique law that grants gays the strongest domestic partnership ever approved. It has every single right a full civil marriage has – except the right to call it “marriage.” It is the strongest gay rights law ever approved by real, actual voters.
