Day 7 (Last Day) Puako Walk

Score! My photo of Abutilon menziesii, which I posted to Flickr to share with the world, attracted the attention of ARKive (http://www.arkive.org/about/species-lists.html). They are trying to grab pictures of rare and endangered species where they live naturally (as opposed to zoos, etc) and their environment to fully document life on Earth. I said YES!! you may grab any pictures I post and put them in the ARKive.

UPDATE: ARKive writes back –

Unfortunately that species is listed as Critically Endangered on the IUCN Red List, so it’s great to hear that it’s in a relatively remote spot. I believe there are a few being grown in nurseries around Hawaii to ensure that the population doesn’t go extinct, but still, it would be nice to still find it in the wild!
